Dear Auburn Family,
Students are back on campus and spirits are soaring high this August in Auburn! SGA has hit the ground running and is already working on many new ventures and exciting upcoming events. While it may still feel like summer outside, SGA is in the school year mindset. Here are some of the exciting things that happened in August.
During the first week of class SGA members were stationed at the “Ask Me” table on the Haley Concourse. The “Ask Me” Days are an effort to make students more comfortable on their way to class by serving as an informational resource. We helped students with directions to classroom buildings, talked about the best places to eat, and advised them on how they can get involved on campus in the coming months.
All branches of SGA met for the Fall Retreat on August 25th for a time of relationship building and productivity. Executive, Legislative, Judicial, and Elections teams met individually and collectively to plan for the year. New and exciting ideas were proposed to make SGA more accessible and helpful to the student body. Having the opportunity to meet together brought forth great ideas and made everyone excited for the coming year!
The Top 5 Miss Homecoming candidates were also announced this month. In no particular order: Emery Waggoner, Lily Grace Thome, Abigail Stephenson, Helen Talmadge, and Molly Walding. Callouts were such an exciting time, and the chosen women were showered in support by their friends, family, and peers. The candidates are now assembling teams for what is sure to be an exciting fall elections season.
Applications for Lobby Board and Freshman Forum opened this month, and there has been a record number of applications for both! We are looking forward to interviews in September and are eager to grow the team.
Weekly meetings have begun for both the Senate and Cabinet branches. Both are focusing on increased communication and collaboration between one another. New initiatives and outreach missions are kicking off, including the new Financial Literacy class for students to earn credit hours while improving their financial wellness. This elective is a great opportunity to teach students about money and how to control their lifelong finances.
With football season on the horizon, our athletics team has been working hard on the Organizational Seating Program (OSP) and shaker distribution. The OSP team hosts shaker distribution every Friday at 2 p.m. inside Jordan-Hare Stadium, and invites all students to engage with this unique volunteer opportunity to see JHS before game day and help distribute shakers throughout the student section. We are so excited to be back in Jordan-Hare with the Auburn Family!
August was exciting, and we are eager to see what September holds. We thank you for this honor to serve you!
