Student Government Association

Dear Auburn Family,

Classes are in full swing and Saturdays are spent in Jordan Hare Stadium – it must be September. Exciting events, new teams and plenty of tabling on campus colored the month. While we begin to prepare for colder weather, let’s explore how the Student Government Association impacted Auburn University’s campus this month.

Kicking off the football season with a win against The University of Massachusetts (59-14), SGA’s organizational block seating held 2,472 students and hosted 50 organizations. Prior to each home game, all students were encouraged to pass out shakers in Jordan Hare Stadium. To the student body, we would love for you to join us in this timeless tradition every Friday at 3:00 p.m. before a home game!

In mid-September, we welcomed Homecoming season. Homecoming was shifted a week earlier to the week of September 11th-16th. Considering the timeline shift for Miss Homecoming campaigns, Executive Director of Elections, Liz Mitchum, was pleased with a 27.01% voter turnout with nearly 9,000 votes cast.

Friday before the game, our very own executive members along with Miss Auburn, Kate Preston, were featured in the parade and pep rally. The Auburn Tigers walked away with a win against Samford University (45-13) and the title-winner was revealed during halftime crowning Ellie Korotky Miss Homecoming.

This was the first election that SGA had the opportunity to implement “I voted” stickers for students participating in the election. SGA received positive feedback in using these stickers as an incentive for voters. SGA passed out nearly 500 stickers and plan to make necessary adjustments to spread these even further come spring elections.

Following Homecoming, new additions were made to a few of SGA’s teams. The Freshman Forum team introduced one extra round of interviews coming to a total of two to ensure they got to know the applicants thoroughly. The first round of interviews were conducted group-style and the second was individual. The group of directors accepted 54 new members to be a voice and representative of the class of 2027. They will be working on gaining feedback from fellow class members to enhance their Auburn experience, as well as shadowing various SGA Cabinet and Senate members.

The Lobby Board also welcomed 30 total members to their team on September 15th. Lobby Board is a group within SGA who advocates for Auburn University and better governmental relations on the city, state and federal levels. Check out more about Lobby Board on SGA’s website!

Along with new members, SGA hosted Ring Week organized by the Auburn Rings team. To the student body, keep your eye out for Ring Night coming up on November 30th.

Lastly, the Budget and Finance final hearing for the upcoming fiscal year occurred on September 16th and can be viewed on Eagle Eye’s streaming platforms.

September has been an eventful month for SGA. As we venture further into the school year, we cannot wait to see what is in store. Please join us this October for Hey Day on October 18th as it is filled with rich history and tradition. We thank you for this honor to serve you.
